At the conference, the City of London and Green Finance Committee of China Society for Finance and Banking jointly announced the establishment of a new UK-China Centre for Green Finance in London. The Centre will focus on research, investor education and capacity building. This will include providing strategic suggestions and solutions for green real economy and developing green finance products to support smart city development.

Dr. Ma Jun said in his speech, “China is the first country to have developed a full-fledged green finance policy framework. The China-UK Green Finance Task Force will keep moving on to conduct environmental risk analysis and improving the availability of environmental data. And both China and UK should work together to drive the green finance development.”

Lord Mayor City of London Alderman Charles Bowman said green finance is a key growth area in financial services globally and aims to drive real economic growth. It represents a significant competitive opportunity for both UK and China. He also expressed that China-UK cooperation will help mitigate climate change, facilitate the transition to an environmentally sustainable growth model and drive the Belt and Road financial development and green investment.

The UK-China Centre for Green Finance will provide cooperation platform for Chinese enterprises developing in the UK as well as information platform for investors, bond issuers and advisers participating in the Belt and Road Initiative. The research of the center will focus on green capital market, green credit, greening the Belt and Road, environmental information disclosure by enterprises and financial institutions and the relation between ESG performance and the cost of financing.

As a partner of this strategic cooperation, Reignwood Group has been boosting green industry development, and made positive exploration in funds, green bonds and certification of green infrastructure.
