On September 28, a National Day reception was held at the Great Hall of the People for overseas Chinese to mark the 72nd anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China. The reception was jointly held by the General Office of the CPPCC National Committee, the United Front Work Department of the CPC Central Committee, the Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of the State Council, the Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office of the State Council, the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council, and the Chinese Federation of Overseas Chinese. As a well-known patriotic overseas Chinese, Chairman Yan was invited to attend the reception.

Wang Yang emphasized that overseas Chinese and returned overseas Chinese and their relatives are important forces for national rejuvenation. We must do a good job in serving the overseas Chinese, support the vast number of overseas Chinese in participating in the comprehensive modernization process of the country, to tell the Chinese story well, spread the voice of China, and share the Chinese dream.

The reception was presided over by Yang Jiechi, a member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC), also director of the Office of the Foreign Affairs Commission of the CPC Central Committee. Some members of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee in Beijing, secretary of the Secretariat of the CPC Central Committee, leaders of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, the State Council, and the National Committee of the CPPCC, and over 800 representatives of Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan compatriots from all circles attended the reception.
