This year marks the 40th anniversary of China’s reform and opening up, and also the fifth anniversary of the Belt and Road Initiative. For the past five years, we have made significant achievements under the Belt and Road Initiative, attracting wide attention from the whole world.

This symposium, which draws lessons from the past, focuses on finance and looks forward to the future, aims at further leveraging Hong Kong’s advantage as the international financial center and its talent and technology advantages to promote the Belt and Road initiative.

During his keynote speech, Mr. Chen Yuan stated that green finance is an area with great potential for international financial cooperation and the finance industry, as the important industry for social resource allocation, should incorporate the concept of environmental protection into financial products.

He also pointed that, with the acceleration of pursuing the belt and road initiative, Chinese enterprises should strictly conform themselves to the green standard, identify and support more green projects and reduce the environmental and social risks in projects. Furthermore, a green finance standard applicable for belt and road initiative and conforming to regulations should be set up to promote sharing of relevant standards, technologies and experiences, thus channeling the financing of belt and road projects to the green industry which is more environmental friendly.
