2019-03-11

On March 11, the State Information Center of the National Development and Reform Commission, and the “Belt and Road” General Chamber of Commerce Hong Kong signed a data construction cooperation memorandum at Reignwood Center, where Hong Kong and Macau CPPCC committee members reside. Peter Lam, standing member of the National Committee of the CPPCC, and Council Chairman of the "One Belt and One Road" General Chamber of Commerce, and Cheng Xiaobo, Director of the State Information Center, delivered speeches at the signing ceremony.

Mr. Cheng said that the country hope that Hong Kong and Macau could continue to leverage their advantages in capital, technology and talented personnel to contribute to high quality development of the country’s economy and a new round of higher-lever opening up. The cooperation between the two sides will better support the chamber’s participation in the building of the country’s Belt and Road Initiative.

Mr. Peter Lam said that the Development Plan for the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area indicates that Hong Kong will explore institutional innovation under the conditions of "one country, two systems" and three customs zones. With the greater bay area being an important support for the “Belt and Road”, Hong Kong will be deeply involved in the building of the “Belt and Road”. This is a major opportunity for Hong Kong and a new topic for economic development in the new era. Hong Kong people are full of expectations. It is hoped that through the joint consultation and construction and drawing on each other’s advantages, both sides can help build the Bay Area big data innovation and entrepreneurship and industrial application base, construct the data ecological environment of the Bay Area, and explore the data-driven development model of the enterprise and therefore upgrade enterprises’ own systems. Also it will better help leverage Hong Kong’s advantages to boost the country’s development.

After the signing ceremony, the “Belt and Road” Initiative Building Financial Cooperation Working Lunch Party was held. It was chaired by co-founder of the Belt and Road General Chamber of Commerce (Hong Kong) and Chairman of Reignwood Group, Mr. Yan Bin. He said that last year, the General Chamber and the Silk Road Planning Research Center held the Symposium on “Review and Outlook” Fifth Anniversary of the Belt and Road Initiative in Hong Kong and the “Belt and Road” Initiative Building and Green Finance Development Forum in London to discuss how to further leverage Hong Kong’s advantages as an international financial center and how to carry out green financial cooperation under the “Belt and Road” framework. The two theme forums have received warm social response. In the future, the Belt and Road General Chamber of Commerce (Hong Kong) will continue to leverage Hong Kong’s advantages to serve the needs of the country.
